Day 27 : Senaki to Tskaltubo
Today it was cycling along lintbebouwing, ribbon development. One house next to the other. Each house has two stories and is fenced, because the cows, chicken, pigs, horses run free in the garden. All these animals are part of the community and of the traffic.
Getting closer to one of the largest spa towns of the former Sovjet Union, Tskaltubo, I came across a lot of faded glory from different periods. After the collapse of the USSR in 1991 many bathhouses and sanatoria were abandoned.
Some sanatoria were used by refugees from Abkhazia as emergency housing. Nowadays Tskaltubo is trying to revive its old glory. Old buildings were renovated and turned into Western style luxury spa hotels where rich Georgians celebrate raucous weddings...
Though the houses are a bit shabby, they exude some charme due to little details. For example the cast-iron fences, the abundant vegetation, an ornament of the rainwater pipe, or a bench with a green roof at the gate.
I found a nice place to heat up some Georgian food I bought earlier for lunch. The police was approaching the same spot - I think I took their favorite picnic spot ;-)
